Commitees

Council

The Council is comprised of twelve members and meets prior to each Stated Meeting of the Presbytery with all its actions reported to Presbytery as items of information or recommendations for action.

The Council’s duties shall be to:  coordinate the mission of the units, committees and churches of the Presbytery; recommend goals and priorities at least every three years; review the relationship between Presbytery structure and mission; authorize a preliminary budget to go to a governing body budget consultation; recommend an annual budget for Presbytery approval no later than the December Presbytery meeting; consult with the Committee on Ministry about dividing, uniting or dissolving churches for more effective ministry; nominate members for Presbyter’s Nominating Committee; and advised the Stated Clerk on the preparation of the docket.

Committee on Ministry

The Committee on Ministry is comprised of seven ministers and seven elders.  The committee is responsible for pastoral relationships, commissioned lay pastors, members of the Presbytery, administration of the Lord’s Supper, membership categories, strategy of churches, pension representation, and continuing education.

Business and Budget Committee

The Business and Budget Committee, which is comprised of seven members, is responsible to serve as the Trustee of Presbytery for its orderly and efficient functioning as a non-profit corporation, reviewing finances of Presbytery, including Westminster Woods and to arrange for their annual audit, and develop the annual Presbytery budget for Council.

Personnel Committee

The Personnel Committee is comprised of six members. The Personnel committee is responsible for reviewing the personnel policies and may recommend revisions.

Vocation/Committee on Preparation for Ministry

The Vocation/Committee on Preparation for Ministry is comprised of nine members.  This committee is responsible for:  serving as Presbytery’s committee on the care, guidance and oversight of inquirers and candidates; supervise training for and examination of Commissioned Lay Pastors; nominating to Presbytery, readers of cooperative examinations for candidates; review the continuing education and well-being of Presbyter ministers and their families; acting as a resource for the development of church officers dealing with other matters relating to the vacation of persons for church leadership.

Nominating Committee

This committee is comprised of nine members, one-third ministers, one-third lay women and one-third lay men.  The Committee submits for Presbytery approval all nominees for committee/ministry unit positions, with the exception of the Nominating Committee itself (Council recommends to Presbytery those nominees). At the request of Synod, the Nominating Committee will make nominations to Presbytery for the appropriate Synod level positions.  The committee shall also recommend, for Presbytery endorsement, persons suitable for particular positions at Synod and General Assembly levels, and shall forward such endorsements to those governing bodies.

Youth Ministry Council

The youth ministry committee shall be comprised of nine people, including a minimum of three youth, to develop and implement a vision for youth ministry in the Presbytery of Central Nebraska.  This committee will manage the annual disbursement of endowment funds from the Youth Leadership Fund for camp scholarships, youth retreats, leadership training, youth mission trips and national youth events.  This committee will present to the presbytery guidelines for how the fund’s interest and principal can be used each year.
